Moving a studio, a few pieces or a storage unit? Here's how small moves work.

Not every move is a four-bedroom house. Plenty of the people we move around Dallas–Fort Worth have a studio, a single room or a storage unit to empty, and they want to know two things: will a mover take a job this size, and what will it cost? Yes, we will, and here's exactly how the price works.

Small moves are billed like every other move

There's no small-move starting price, just our two hour minimum. A small move is billed by the hour for the buddies you need, and almost every small move we did this year had two of them. Right now that's $90 an hour for each buddy, so two buddies are $180 an hour, with the truck, fuel, blankets, equipment, stairs and tax already in it.

The two hour minimum is the least you'll pay, not the price

This is the part that trips people up, so here it is plainly. Every move is billed for at least two hours. If your buddies finish in an hour and a half, you pay for two hours, which is $360 with two buddies. But $360 isn't a set price for the move: if yours takes three hours, you pay for three.

After the first two hours we bill to the nearest fifteen minutes, so three hours and ten minutes is billed as three hours and fifteen. The clock starts when your buddies reach your door and stops when the work is done, and any travel time is on your quote before you book.

How long small moves actually take

These come from our own small moves in 2026. "Most" here means the middle half: a quarter of moves took less time and a quarter took more.

  • A single room or less: most took two to three hours, and about half were done inside the two hour minimum.
  • A studio apartment: most took two to three and a quarter hours, and more than a third were done inside two hours.
  • A 5×10 or 10×10 storage unit: most took two to three and a quarter hours, and about a third were done inside two hours.
  • A one-bedroom apartment: most took between two and a quarter and four and a quarter hours.

In dollars, most studio moves came to $394–$599 this year, most one-bedrooms $400–$722 and most 10×10 storage units $400–$622. Our moving cost guide explains how those were worked out.

Most things are fine, and the exceptions are short

We don't move pool tables or hot tubs, and we don't go into attics. Pianos, gun safes and anything over four hundred pounds are fine to ask about, so tell us first and we'll give you a straight answer before you book. Our list of things movers won't take has the rest.

We bring a 26 foot truck for most jobs. If your move is small or the access is tight, tell us when you book and we'll send something that fits. Taking furniture apart and putting it back together is in the rate, and so are the blankets, shrink wrap, dollies, floor runners and door protection.

A storage unit and an apartment can be one booking

Plenty of small moves have more than one pickup or drop-off, like an apartment and a storage unit, and more than 200 of ours did this year. That's fine. Tell us every address when you book, and the drive between stops is just part of the moving time.

We'll move things into or out of storage, and both in one day if the timing works. We don't have storage of our own, but we're happy to move you into a facility you've chosen. Here's how our storage moves work.

Five ways to keep a small move short

  • Have everything packed and taped shut before we arrive. Furniture goes quickly. It's the loose things, like lamps, cables and the junk drawer, that eat the clock.
  • Use boxes, not trash bags. Six or seven large boxes stack on one dolly, where only one or two bags fit, and bags tear.
  • Reserve the elevator and save a parking spot close to the door, because the walk from the truck is one of the biggest things that decides how long a move takes.
  • Take apart the simple things, like a bed frame, if you're comfortable doing it. The tools often came with the furniture.
  • Have the storage unit ready, with the gate code and the key on hand, so your buddies aren't waiting at the gate.

None of this is required. But on a small move, a little prep can be the difference between paying for two hours and paying for three. Our apartment moving tips have a few more.

Booking a small move takes about a minute

Put in both addresses and roughly what you have, pick your date and a morning or afternoon arrival window, and you'll see your price before you book. There's no deposit, and if your plans change, moving your date is free.

Need boxes? We can drop them off before your move. And if you'd rather not pack at all, we can pack all of it, or just the kitchen.

Questions about small moves

The ones we hear most about small moves. If yours isn't here, call the office and ask.

Is there a minimum for a small move?

Yes, two hours, the same as every move we do. With two buddies that's $360, and it's the least a move costs, not a set price for yours.

Will you move just a few pieces of furniture?

Yes. It's booked like any other move, by the hour with the same two hour minimum. Tell us about anything over four hundred pounds first.

Do you charge extra for stairs on a small move?

No. Stairs are in the rate, however many flights there are.

Can you move my apartment and my storage unit on the same day?

Yes. Put both addresses in when you book, and the drive between them is just part of the moving time.

Do I need to buy boxes?

Only if you're packing yourself. We can drop boxes off before your move, and ours are thick enough to stack without crushing.

Still stuck on something? Book your move. There's a notes box, and a real person reads it. Or call (972) 767-9242.
